A soda is no more dangerous than a large red apple. The calories from a 12oz are equivalent and the 'hfcs' is only 5% more in ratio (fructose:sucrose), besides soda lacking vitamins of course.
Anyways, yeah consuming 160 calorie beverages secret times a day is not good, especially for inactive people.
Actually other sodas are worse than coke because they contain more sugar.
Also, most fruit juices contain just as much or more sugar on an ounce to ounce basis.
