Why does Texas think they have to charge $1500 for MWatt/hr, to use its own coal to fire its own plants within its own grid? Because the Feds say so?

Texas should have simply told DC we'll take care of our own, thank you very much - stick those green regs where the sun doesn't shine.

DOE authorization allowing temporary suspension of limits dated 2/14/21 here, and yes it does include $1,500/mWh minimum cost: https://www.energy.gov/sites/prod/files/2021/02/f82/DOE%20202%28c%29%20Emergency%20Order%20-%20ERCOT%2002.14.2021.pdf

$1,500/MWh for the incremental amount of restricted capacity. Each power plant has a maximum power output rating while complying with emission standards. If the power plant produces more power while not complying with emission standards the difference is the incremental amount of restricted capacity.

Any lawsuits that come need to be directed towards the Federal Government.

That's exactly not what was in the DOE documents...

The real story should actually be the price gouging during that time. That needs to be investigated!

Price gouging is when predatory prices are forced upon the consumer.

People think Griddy electric Co. was such a beast, charging $9000/MWatt hour at the end of this polar experience.

Griddy was buying electricity from the producers at prohibitive rates...because it had no choice. When rates got that high, Griddy was telling its customers to switch to bigger producers.

Who forced the price gouging? Not the electric companies.

That would be the federal DoE, with its green regs.

Because the environment is more important than human lives, in the Dems view.

Griddy was buying electricity from the producers at prohibitive rates...because it had no choice.

The only price that was set was for the "incremental amount of restricted capacity."

The spike in wholesale prices was absurd. There is no reasonable explanation for it. It's almost like a few energy brokers forced the prices that high.

It would seem that they, like ol' Shumer was saying, were trying to send a message to Texas....
