Up by 4:30 to get prepped and then get to work (you had to show up early, being less than 30 minutes early meant you were late), usually not let off work until 6. And again this was while in garrison, not even speaking of deployments when you're literally on duty 24/7/365

The recruiter's office hounded my parents and threatened me with arrest if I wouldn't come to their office. When I got there, they immediately ordered me to fill out enlistment paperwork. I refused, and they then said I would be "free to go" if I would sign some sort of "deferred enlistment" scam that would require me to report for boot camp after 6 months to settle my affairs. In the process, the recruiter took a batch of Polaroid pictures of obviously-underaged girls working an overseas strip club lap-dancing drunken soldiers, telling me those girls were 14. When I questioned the legality of their possession and "promotional use" of child-porn, he became very triggered and called in an assistant. At some point, I caught him not guarding the door and made a run for it. I wish I had video of that, those two fat-asses chasing me out of the building pounding on my car-window on a city street, looking that the evil dickheads they are.

I've had a ton of friends that were in the military and several of them were even recruiters and not a damn thing you said sounds like anything I've ever heard before....

Marine corps is pretty much the last branch of the military you should join if you want any control over where you go. In the marines you get sent where they want you sent and you're pretty much boned if you don't like it, up to and including literally sending you to retraining for a different job. At least in the army and the air force you stick with the MoS (method of service ie: job) you joined with and can apply to either stay at your current duty station or potentially request a reassignment to a duty station of choice (though whether or not it'll be approved is obviously up in the air). No real experience with the way the Navy does things myself, but I imagine that's mostly if you want to travel around constantly on a ship.
Spoken as someone that was in the army btw, every time I met a marine on deployment I could only feel bad for them, their equipment sucked (by comparison) as did their facilities. And I wasn't exactly rolling in luxury myself as an infantryman, so that's really saying something.

You'd be far better off gathering up a group of like-minded young men and engaging in your own martial training: martial arts (boxing, karate, judo, wrestling etc), shooting, hunting, fishing. Make a fight club of sorts. Train hard. You will be better men physically and mentally, will build bonds, and will be better prepared for all the nasty shit that's coming. If you can't find a whole group, just get one other guy. The rest will be drawn to you eventually.

If you know you’d be a patriot, join and be your best self. Consider the national guard so you aren’t a retainer.
