Seriously, we are headed for very hard times, your physical fitness will give you the best chance of survival. I'm not in nearly as good of shape as I was a couple years ago but I decided a few weeks ago I have to push myself as hard as I can so now I do my exercise until I'm sore, then rest and as soon as I feel recovered I'm right back out there again. I'm getting all kinds of minor injuries but that's a good thing because I want to get injured now and recover so that when shit really starts hitting the fan I'll be in as good of shape as possible.

I recommend strong lifts 5x5 program for anyone looking to build strength. It’s free and has an app for tracking workouts.
strong 5x5 program for strength building. Got it, thanks.
I would do something more along the lines of "reddit PPL." Unless you just want strength gains and are ok leaving easy physique improvements off the table. I've been down this road many times. I've been incredibly strong from 5x5s but a bit chunky and none the happier for it. I've been weak but cut. Not a fan.
Now I'm a little more well rounded. I'm strong (275 x 5 bench at 185 lbs earlier today) but also look good shirtless. I always start my workouts off with the compound movements and use a linear progression (add weight or reps every workout), but then I also do accessory lifts in higher rep ranges. I throw in explosive reps too, but that's advanced and unnecessary tbh. I just like it.
Do what you do and a good 5x5 is the gold standard for beginner lifters to learn the movements and get strong. But I'm of the belief that that's not the only reason people work out. You also want to improve your physique, I'd imagine.
Just my personal experience, you certainly will not go "wrong" either way.
This guy is right. 5x5 makes you strong but you won't look good with your shirt off. I think any time 5x5 is recommended it should only be for a beginner's first 3-6 months. Then after you have built your foundation, switch to something more appropriate for your fitness goals.
