Back when I was a kid, getting divorced was considered a shameful thing to do. Then over the years, the media brainwashed people into believing that it was acceptable or even the hip thing to do. Women started using it as a "get rich quick" scheme.
Being a single parent also used to be shameful. A widow is one thing, but children out of wedlock were frowned upon. Divorce, too. There’s a reason for that.
