I have a based dentist. At my last checkup he didn't make his patients wear masks in the waiting room. When I talked to him after my checkup was complete, he told me that masks are pretty much useless to stop the spread of covid. He and the hygenist just wear them while checking my teeth to stop them from accidentally spitting into my mouth.
I know. People perceive doctors to be experts on everything regarding science of the human body and many other subjects they are not qualified in. Doctors are people who are trained to deliver medical products and services. They're not necessarily well versed in the science behind what they do.
They initially (early last year) tried that, with special red bagged containers. After a few days, they decided the cost and hassle weren't worth it. A few weeks later and we ran out of masks. There were no masks to give out to patients, and as a provider, you had to save your masks and reuse them.
There was no science or common sense behind this, just fear and people higher up making decisions they weren't qualified for. A lot of people died because of 'experts' that made decisions for everyone else, by fiat, instead of sound medical practice.

If I remember from my HS job those curly lights are the same as the tube florescence lights right? They contain mercury so according to OSHA if one breaks the area is supposed to be cleared and hazmat called to come clean it.
Yup. I've been asking that from the beginning. Now, all one sees is dead and rotting masks tossed everywhere...drifted around parking lots, cast away on the sides of the roads, tossed willy nilly in shopping carts. Disgusting.

I usually just pretend I'm fucking with it to try and get it over my ears until I get to my seat, and then I don't have to wear it. Nobody has ever said anything to me.
I too employ the “ mask just to get in the door” routine. My children also wear their masks however that is comfortable for them, if it’s under their chin so be it. I’ve only had one person outside, on a walking trail, that ever said anything to me. That was in April.
Same reason you have to throw your "potentially chemical bomb" bottle of water in the same bin as the other "potentially chemical bombs" at the airport.
From what i understand, the virus is only transmissible through the respiratory system, thats why you can eat food that has been prepared by someone with covid and the only way you'd get it is if you somehow stuffed it up your nose or breathed it in.
Masks help reduce the spread of covid by limiting the particles that are released into the open air, however they don't do much of anything to stop one from breathing in Covid once its already in the air if all you are wearing is a regular mask, N95 respirators however filter out 95% of airborne particles including respiratory droplets (from sneezing and coughing) as well as aerosolized droplets.
To say masks are useless is misleading, but if one person with covid is sneezing and doesn't have a regular mask, everyone might get it from that guy even if they are wearing one.
Interesting how they are making masks because we have mask mandates and are forced to wear them to get service, yet they can sit in a room together making masks with no masks on. And here they are now saying Wear two!
I asked the same question. I work in a hospital and they just toss the masks in a trash can with a push in lid. When you push the lid in to toss out trash, you touch the nasty biohazard masks that previous nurses, doctors, patients, techs, just tossed out like normal garbage. If it's so deadly, why is this the case? Such BS.
