In college, I started writing a satirical paper tying the fall of the constitutional republic to women's suffrage. As I did research, it became harder and harder to write the paper as satire. I hadn't yet heard Aristotle's quote about masculine republics becoming feminine democracies, but I can't deny seeing it play out in American politics.

If America ever returns, it will have to consider carefully to whom the voting franchise is extended. It needn't be divided by gender lines, but it must consider the citizen's contribution versus the citizen's demands.
