Pretty soon we have the Space Tax and everyone is go america, win the space race, and then the alien stories come out and some more Hollywood produced news stories, optical illusions, etc to distract us, and in the meantime they get billions of tax money for cranking out a few films produced by Hollywood and pushed by MSM and nobody will know the difference.

So I haven't really been following the mars thing. But, didn't they already land a rover there quite a few years ago?

What makes this particular landing a big deal?

One was the type of landing being used with the crane. Another was the automated landing site selection software (to avoid landing on a big rock). Also there is the sample collection to be picked up at a later date from the rover. Much more but those were the highlights.
