Freeland’s maternal grandfather was allegedly a Nazi collaborator in the Ukraine. Instead of being liberated by the Red Army opted to go with the Wehrmacht to Vienna and ultimately Bavaria. Conveniently picked up by US troops there. Would be interesting to pull the string.
