Not necessarily invasion, their MO these days is debt trap. They volunteer to build infrastructures in third world countries at critical locations of geopolitical interest, and they bribe the authorities to get the deal. When it's done and those countries couldn't pay off the debt, they take over those facilities and use them as military bases. One of them is a port in Pakistan, which is like Pakistan's only access point to the Indian ocean.
