It's an oblique dig at Bezos too. Interesting.

52
alfredbester 52 points ago +52 / -0

They are fighting for control over man's path to space.

17
Brendancs0 17 points ago +18 / -1

spoiler alert the elites will jet off into space while we toil for scraps

21
Gelus 21 points ago +21 / -0

It's more two competing visions for space.

Musk's is Niven & Pournelle's Fallen Angels. Frens escape Earth as it's taken over by communist green fanatics enforcing ignorance, and the Frens make a new life in space.

Bezos' is Elysium. Billionaires live on a fancy ringworld away from and untouchable by their toiling peasants.

7
NoFucks2Give 7 points ago +7 / -0

I think Space will be more of a fight for “scraps” for essential survival supplies than the Earth.

But then I am a doomer pessimist or whatever and not high energy, so what do I know, as if I have some “insight”....when in the face of higher intellects like Musk and Bezos, who am I to make an observation? Hell, I am like the people mocking the Wright brothers....I mean it is EXACTLY LIKE THAT....amirite? Exactly like that!!

2
KAGMAGIC2020 2 points ago +2 / -0

Space holds countless, like nearly limitless amounts of resources for many, many human generations in our solar system alone. Asteroids literally made of precious metals to be captured and mined.

A.I. and self replicating robots in space is entirely possible. We can build space stations and space vehicles in space using asteroid metals. Terraform Mars.

Honestly star trek universe is the best thing we can hope for humanity.

2
Mercenaryx 2 points ago +2 / -0

God NO! I want nothing to do with star trek, it is bull$h*t space communist propaganda. It is why I will take the more believable space wizards of Star wars anyday. After all which is more believable? Space wizards and their magic or communism actually working of the betterment of mankind and not as intended?

1
TrumpJudo 1 point ago +2 / -1

It will be Starcraft 2 terran SCV drops. They will build everything we need to land, party, fuck space hookers and play blackjack the first night we land anywhere.

this isn't futurology

1
Brulz_Lulz 1 point ago +1 / -0

Doubt it. Space life sucks. They wouldn't even have a fraction of the comforts they have on this planet.

More than likely, they are kvetching over the thought of disaffected people leaving the planet to find their own way in space, thus leaving them with fewer serfs to exploit.

1
KAGMAGIC2020 1 point ago +1 / -0

Theres nothing they can do about that. Space is the final frontier. Or the beginning of countless new ones from another perspective.

1
Brendancs0 1 point ago +1 / -0

i believe it will some space bases and isolated regions that they lord over. think canadian forest australian dessert anartica etc

That's my point. Whoever controls near Earth space controls it all.

9
jomten 9 points ago +9 / -0

Step 1 - crowdfund satellites for phone/internet

Step 0.5- ohfuk did we accidentally on purpose leave a bigass backdoor in the code?

Step 2- uncensorable internet and phone service for errbody.

3
KAGMAGIC2020 3 points ago +3 / -0

aka elon musks satellite network

2
jomten 2 points ago +2 / -0

One thing ive learned is never trust the billionaire tech giant.

Elon is cool so far, I like most things about him.

But we've been burnt one too many times, we need to have our own shit. We can't count on anyone but ourselves at the end of the day

2
deleted 2 points ago +2 / -0
5
SnowflakeJuice 5 points ago +5 / -0

Yeah, there primary fight is that they have competing satellite/internet services. Musk is farther along in development, but Bezos' plan is to put satellites into a lower Orbit. Musk wanted to lower his satellites Orbit and Bezos is fighting him over it.

If either project is successful, it will make the owner the wealthiest person in the world. they would be able to provide high speed internet access to every single person in the world, making the whole world their customer

1

If you were Bezos, why the hell would you still want to be CEO? He has a lot of other "pet projects" that keep him busy, he has more money than his great great grandchildren will ever need and being CEO is a pain in the ass

-1
deleted -1 points ago +1 / -2
3
hotCovfefeMod 3 points ago +4 / -1

His net worth is closely linked to the price of $AMZN shares. It's in his best interest to select a trustworthy figure to be CEO when the company is poised to take share in numerous segments of the economy as he takes a step back and focus on longer-term issues.

I don't trust the guy at all, but he's about as shrewd as it gets.

And there's no way he's been arrested. Some people here... "The rules don't apply to the rich and powerful...who are getting arrested all the time!"

Less Q, more straightforward logic.

3
FakeNametag 3 points ago +3 / -0

I don't like Bezos but one good thing I can say about him is he isn't part of the population control cult:

https://www.nbcnews.com/mach/science/jeff-bezos-foresees-trillion-people-living-millions-space-colonies-here-ncna1006036

2
SnowflakeJuice 2 points ago +2 / -0

He can sit at home, let others do the work and still collect Billions. His fortune is from ownership, not from being CEO. A CEO needs to work, that is the definition of the word

2
Angerisagift 2 points ago +2 / -0

Ackshully, Snopes says CEO stands for Chief Executive Officer but forgive them for using a word that might be misconstrued as disrespectful of the indigenous.

You’re right that being CEO normally entails a big commitment of time and the mental load of decision making and accountability for things in and out of your control.

27
Judiwont 27 points ago +27 / -0

I think these rich types are starting to wake up to the fact we are 75 million strong and no leadership. A couple good people out there giving suggestions on what to do but no one leading. So maybe Elon will start giving a voice to the voiceless.

12
um_ya 12 points ago +12 / -0

Currently crypto is the only thing leading the charge in this fight.
They control us with the USD and the stock market.
They can't do anything about crypto.
Now we just need a leader to step up and draw a line in the sand against big gov, to finish the job.

3
Jeffersonian_Man 3 points ago +3 / -0

Some crypto is already compromised.

2
Dictator_Bob 2 points ago +3 / -1

Crypto's promise is in decantralization. A leader can never take the reigns of the people's freely chosen medium of exchange. Ethereum is correct at least in ideology. We should all be free to make choices as we see fit. Crypto will let us build infrastructure for tech in ways that are unfettered by collusive cartels, ran by billionaires.

When you wear prescription eyeglasses you allow your eye to focus properly and see better with less strain. Are you less human due to your incorporation of an artificial augmentation?

No, I don’t see it quite this way, but Elon isn’t some demonic cyborg godfather for seeing room for improvements. I have a relative with an implanted pacemaker keeping his heart within range. In my future there could be the need for something akin to a brain wave attenuators. I would much rather rely on something from Neuralink than Pfizer. “Here take this handful of different compounds throughout the day and let us know how it goes.”

1
DrinkLikeAGilmore 1 point ago +1 / -0

What are you yammering about? What EM has is mind is FAR beyond prescription eyeglasses, ffs

0
Angerisagift 0 points ago +1 / -1

Well he can sometimes sound like a sci fi prophet, but of course many great tech developments were predicted and inspired by sci fi.

If you use the internet often you have already modified your brain to adapt to tech. You have retired pathways now. You are programmed to seek new info and social cues. This stuff is engineered by teams of people seeking to boost engagement and shape beliefs. Your memory has probably already been degraded because through no fault of your own you have come to rely on the net to remember, software to calculate and organize.

What Elon and others see is that in many ways we have already made tools that beat us in lots of tasks- not just robot welding or online Chess or IBM winning Jeopardy, but medical diagnosis, image scans and even language facility compared to most people. So, since it doesn’t look likely we’ll all go Luddite, people may want to augment to better function and retain freedom. I haven’t decided where I draw the line on making use of such tech, but I know it’s a real question and way more serious than simply scoffing.

1
preferredfault 1 point ago +1 / -0

Yeah, sadly it seems from Elon's perspective, this is all only a temporary crazy place he has to deal with. He already said he wants to die on mars. Or in other words, his resources aren't for this earth, he's saving them for his trip to mars. He's all in on that dream. The problem is, in order to have a sustained colony on mars, you need to have shit on earth to not be soo volatile, otherwise the whole colony dream collapses if America turns full third world or becomes soo weakened that its enemies decide it wants a WWIII. Then all Elon will be able to do is watch the colony he built die....then he'll be remembered as a man who died on mars with his dream, rather than the man who died living his dream.

1
Kaiheitai 1 point ago +1 / -0

Yeah true. Though it depends on supply chains and how sustainable Mars can be.

2
preferredfault 2 points ago +2 / -0

A colony on mars will never be entirely self sustainable, at least not for centuries. So they will always rely on some resource from earth, even if it's just replacement computer chips or upgrades and new hardware. As they expand, they'll also want more things, like more types of seeds, other equipment, etc. And that's not even counting the amount of people they would need for a true colony, which would take tens of thousands of people to have a successful breeding population that doesn't end up inbred. And that's even if people can be born on mars due to the low gravity or some other issue. If that's a limiting factor, then a mars base will never be anything but a glorified space hotel / research outpost.

1
Kaiheitai 1 point ago +1 / -0

Yeah really even Antarctica is more hospitable.

Here's hoping Mars is a start to spreading out from this rock.

1
preferredfault 1 point ago +1 / -0

Even if an asteroid hits earth and wiped out mostly everything, it would still make more sense to wait in orbit and re-colonize earth than to colonize mars. You'd be able to put way more people in orbit than on mars. Even if there was a mars colony and the earth was hit by an asteroid, going back to earth after X number of years or centuries would still be better in the long run than trying to establish a permanent new home on mars. That's what these mars colonization dreams fail to realize....earth will always be the best candidate.

Just imagine you're on mars and earth is hit and X amount of time passes and the dust starts to settle. Even if the atmosphere is toxic, as long as the oceans haven't boiled away, that one sole reason alone would be enough to go back to re-colonize earth. Not to mention the gravity. Live in habitats on a desert wasteland with low gravity....or live in habitats on a toxic atmosphere earth with readily available water and other resources (that may eventually recover on its own) that is the right distance from the sun for liquid water with a thick enough atmosphere that you would only need breathers and not pressure suits. It's a no brainer!

1
Kaiheitai 1 point ago +1 / -0

Terraforming if possible. Otherwise only reason to go is for resources or personal freedoms.

4
krepoisbest 4 points ago +4 / -0

One man can only do so much. Also, there is no use in buying CNN and FOX. They create new channels and continue.

2

She wants to Defund/Abolish the police, she's a Bernie supporter, she thinks there's more than 2 genders, etc. I have no idea what Elon sees in that nutcase, hopefully he dumps her someday[soon] and gets with a nice conservative gal.

1
UnemployedMarx 1 point ago +2 / -1

I'm pretty sure I read some article once about when Elon dated Amber Heard he first stated to her once that "I am the alpha in the relationship" or something like that.

I'm pretty sure Elon doesn't mind leftist women if they submit to him, like all men should expect. Most leftist crazy women will submit to dominant men and once she does her politics don't matter to the guy at that point because he leads and she follows, politics be damned. Elon strikes me as the kind of guy who operates like this.

3
MAGACRACKER 3 points ago +5 / -2

No. Full stop no. Don't put your dick in crazy and don't date for sport. Find a woman that will mother your children and keep your house a home. I know it's an enticing fantasy to break a wild mare and make her your trophy but you're giving yourself a fuckton of work for less payoff than just dating a sane woman to begin with. The right has the most beautiful and intelligent women which will actually be a worthwhile second-in-command when you start a family, not a project without guarantee of success for weak ass bragging rights. Leftist cunts are fit only to rot alone.

-1
UnemployedMarx -1 points ago +1 / -2

Oh, I agree with you generally speaking. Mostly because leftist women rarely submit to men and rarely to you if they're going to submit to anyone. One of the richest men in the world like Elon might actually be able to pull it off because of his wealth/power/influence etc... Whatever she lacks in morality to teach his kids, he can make up for it with tutors and all the other help she'll get due to his money.

For your average guy who just wants to find a woman to love him, support him and have his kids, leftist women are going to be a pretty bad choice.

1
conservativeyuppie 1 point ago +1 / -0

Whatever she lacks in morality to teach his kids, he can make up for it with tutors and all the other help she'll get due to his money.

You cannot replace a mother in that sense. And that also overlooks the genetic component where kids will inherit much of their intelligence from the mother. Healthy family structure makes no distinction between rich and poor and rich men are just as easily susceptible to the bad spirits surrounding a deranged liberal woman as poor men are. Stay away from women like that regardless of your background.
