Lincoln blanket pardoned almost all of the low-level Confederate soldiers. It can be done, Trump just chose not too. Why?
Now these people are facing serious time (Conspiracy to Obstruct Congress carries a 20 year max sentence), but nobody on here seems to give a shit. What the fuck happened to this place?
These people were there protesting to protect our rights, we need to do whatever we can to help them
Optics. If Trump pardoned them all then that would be a quiver in the inserectuion/impeachment hat.
Also hate to say it but these people let Trump down not the other way around. The ones that broke into the capitol did break the law. I don't think they deserve harsh punishment (they should get 300$ fines and thats it) but they did break into the capitol and obstruct congress. Trump didn't want that.
And what did it lead to? Trump being impeached a second time (and 2nd acquittal). Half the country thinks he tried to overthrow the election. His fraud claims are now even less credible because they have the erection stink on them, and anyone who talks about is automatically considered an inciter. Not to mention giving congress the cover to attack anyone on the right or part of MAGA.
Deciding to have a riot at the capitol was really stupid. No matter how it went the protesters with their stunt were not going to prevent Biden from getting installed. Once they broke in they crossed the line. you can blame provocateur's and milita's all you want but plenty of normal people got caught up adding to the scene. And especially the people who fought and injured cops its not helping the cause.
Because he can't do blanket pardons. He'd have to have every name.
