They got robbed too many times

I'm sure the "camera recognizing your face" is literally just the guy behind the counter being super selective with who he allows in while simultaneously weeding out people who wouldn't want their face on camera. People who have never been to a gas station in the ghetto are really missing out on an odd experience. 16 years ago I lived in a really bad area. One gas station near me would only allow one person in the store at a time and you had a time limit of how long you were allowed in there. The clerk sat behind thick bulletproof glass and would yell out how much time you had left. But my favorite gas station was only open a couple of hours during the day. They had THE BEST fountain drinks. But You weren't allowed in the store. You walked up to an outdoor window that didn't open and told the clerk what you wanted and they would assist you. There was a hole in the bulletproof glass that had an arch that tilted up and down. You put your money in the open space, they lifted the arch on their end which closed it off to you but opened it to them, they would collect the money and replace it with your change and item(s) you requested. I guess if you get robbed one too many times you start getting inventive.

There was a sign that instructed you to take off your mask and look up at the camera to open the door. Specifically referencing the facial recognition software that would allow you entry. Wtf?
Maybe they got tired of getting robbed twice a week because putting millions out of work and glorifying criminals and mandating full face coverings at the same time is a recipe for robbery.
