The immigrant is responsible for adopting and assimilating into the nation that adopts it. If an immigrant changes the Nation, adversely or otherwise, it ceases becoming an immigrant and becomes an invader.
If a Nation changes adversely for the benefit of the immigrant, then the incentive for the Nation to accept immigrants reduces, or becomes zero.
bring your culture with an open mind. adopt better values that you find in place. any immigrants who's 1st and 2nd generation children aren't significantly "American" have failed.
Multiculturalism just means allowing other cultures to take root in your nation. The new country will never come first to those who hold on to their culture.
It’s possible to retain certain characteristics of the ‘donor’ country while successfully assimilating. Which is why we have St. Patrick’s day, Columbus day, and ethnically specific villages like Solvang, California.
All those ... ten years or less, gone.
That was the rule everywhere in the West, when they did allow a few people in.
In Canada, P Trudeau threw out that rule in the 1970s. LBJ might have started the thing in the USA around that time, but it didn't get a lot of momentum until G H W Bush had a big immigration spike, and then the Clintons arrived and nobody followed rules.
They will never follow your laws.
They will use your laws to remove you.
Most will just use their own language and customs and laws:
Seems like a cancer, and cancer can only be dealt with in two way cut it out or burn it out.
No, it was thrown out in 1965 by the Hart/Cellar Act
If immigrants want to change the Nation, they like where they're coming from and might as well stay there.
Other motives include:
Neither of these alternatives are good in any way and are extremely hostile towards the host nation.
The problem with the OP is that there is no guarantee that the nation can change the immigrant, especially if it is extremely easy for the immigrant to merely pretend to change meaningfully. And some (or the vast majority of) immigrants don't even have the potential to change - the USA has not been getting anywhere near the best for many decades now.
Or how about they don't have to change each other at all
Best way to assure no change is no immigration, unless you’re okay with Muslims communities in Dearborn MI stoning women.
BTW, how’s Centerville these days? Is it seeing the same influx of non-southerners as mid-Tn?
It's called naturalisation. In Australia we have immigrants attend courses that teach them the basics like not to burn your rubbish in your backyard and not to shit in the streets.
I don't know if th US does the same but seems like it would be a good idea
lmao I can't even begin to fathom the shitstorm that such a program like that would cause in the US
Civic Nationalism is just liberalism from the 70’s.
As a Latino who came to the United States legally and with effort and perseverance I obtained citizenship through the legal method, I tell you that you are right, I adapted to the American culture, and now I am looking for how to defend it so that I do not fall into that misfortune of communism
Yep, but it's complex. When you first arrive you are all MURICUR MURICUR MURICUR, but over time you realise you were also brought up somewhere else and it's part of your core identity. So you kinda live a life where those two identities merge. Your first duty is to your new country, but your ordinary life fits into that. America is unique in that its melting pot philosophy makes it 100x easier than other countries. You can't do that in Ghana or North Korea.
You see this mostly in schools and national holidays. All the Brits here love Thanksgiving, although we don't have it at home. But they all want a roast dinner and soccer on Sundays too. You end up with 5 flags: US, UK, US state, Eng/Scot, and Eng county. Then you fight about the order and height.
You fit in as a matter of duty, but you always have a part of you that comes along for the ride, which hopefully you can add to everyone's benefit.
This is a good point. Look at Minneapolis, for a real world example of how we have immigrants not assimilating. It is not a good thing.
Thats why vetting is important.
I love the USA because I could say whatever the fuck I want without fear of government doing something to me (no longer the case).
It affords me and my family a middle class lifestyle within only 1 generation as long as we work hard.
Oh, and 2A amendment wound ensure that we would never end up helpless as many folks in our birth country did.
I cringe and despise the loud mouth democrat sponsored "immigrants" with the entitlement attitude and blaming white people for everything attitude.
It goes both ways a little bit I mean I still want to have various ethnic food, even pizza, but yea overall they need to be the ones doing most of the adapting
How about only choosing immigrants that are already like us...if at all.
Am an immigrant, 100% agree. This shouldn't even be a discussion. Anyone who doesn't want to assimilate is free to gtfo.
This is correct. Well at least in respect to the given situation.
The left are incapable of developing their thinking because they're intolerant to anything that might change their mind or require them to advance.
Typically you might offer them a thought experiment such as what if the immigrants were all white supremacists or Nazis? Would you then be so accommodating?
Alas, they are incapable of thought.
To be honest I can perhaps understand why the left believe they must fit in with foreigners rather than the other way around when in most of their cities foreigners have become the majority.
The left have become so far removed from the values of the Nation, that they may as well be considered immigrants themselves
Many of them are, and they need to go back... Hirano, Lieu, Omar, Cortez, Schumer, Kamala, etc.
None of them are the “posterity” mentioned in the constitution.
You got it.
“...to ourselves and our posterity.”
I wouldn't capitalise it but that is correct. I would say they're worse as an overall. Immigrant is neither good or bad on its own and is context dependent. They are bad by definition.
They do however support immigration that is bad by definition both overall and specifically. For example, supporting excessive immigration or immigrants that are rapists.
I think a lot of people on the left don't take it seriously that all of their upper echelons have been compromised and they're being converted to far left extremism from the top down until it's too late.
There is something more fundamentally wrong with their cognition though. Nationalism is a good thing. Excessive nationalism isn't though.
In their minds immigration is always good. In their minds nationalism is always bad.
Things are not that simple. The result is that if they were Poland before WWII they would be begging for Germany to let its people come and take its land for living space and not to bother with the armies they'll completely capitulate worse than France.
The thing I don't understand is that if they prefer the company of foreigners so much why don't they just move abroad?
Because they hate more than they love.
Their anti-nationalism trumps their xenophilia.
They want to destroy us more than they want to escape it.
