This is just dangerous. Cause then if they get pressured to, or decides to be ignorant asses, could nuke the US or anywhere without going through strict processes.
The military already called Nancy out the last time she tried this with Trump, the President does NOT actually have the ability to fire nukes. It's not a magic button and a targeting computer, it is the lock that prevents the military from firing them whenever they might feel like it.
The military still gets to decide if someone needs to be nuked, codes or no codes. And no, in case anybody hasn't been paying attention, the military does NOT do whatever the president tells them to.
I have buddies who worked in nuclear silos. The process has many checks and balances. To me these people are just ignorant to the actual process and want to change it, and they act like they are saving the fucking world in doing so. Literally is just red tape for something that doesn't need it. "First strike" stopped being a thing after the Cold War ended.
Yeah there's no actual connection from a B61 to the president. They would either get or have the PAL code to release the weapon mid-flight. Not sure how the code gets to the pilot but I'm betting a "Dr. Strangelove" is still technically possible if the wing commander has authority to crack open the safe.

or delay the response on china's command
or leak plans on attack
Imagine how happy China would be if our nuclear response has to go through congress for approval.
Fucking shitlibs would literally vote to not retaliate because "it's an act of white supremacy to do so".
*Kaboom! BaBOOM!*
NO WE CAN'T LAUNCH OURS, THAT'LL START A WAR WITH CHINA!
That's not how any of this works though.

Someone here knows what the deal is.

On the subs it categorically is.
They have the means to exact revenge in the absence of a command and control structure remaining.
