Regulations funded by your tax dollars force other automakers to buy "carbon offset credits" from Tesla for making cars the government likes better than theirs. Tesla makes more money off this than selling cars.
The government picks the winners, and vetos the losses when it wants to.
Government contracts are a big part of SpaceX’s business, and I’m pretty sure the government partly subsidized the R&D for human rated spacecraft made by SpaceX.
But, I think government distortions play a bigger role for Tesla. Tax credits play no small part in selling electric vehicles
