On Tuesday, State Rep. Matt Schaefer (R–Tyler)filed House Bills 2097 and 2098, both of which would end the governor’s and local officials’ mask mandates, bar them from ever issuing such mandates again unless the legislature authorizes it, and take away officials’ ability to fine citizens for not following their emergency orders.

Schaefer filed these bills on the same day Tarrant County commissioners in North Texas unanimously extended their countywide mask mandate, compelling businesses to fine citizens in their buildings $1,000 if they aren’t wearing a mask, ignoring citizens and other voices in the scientific community.

Texas is also currently under a statewide mask mandate from Gov. Greg Abbott.

“Want a mask mandate with a criminal offense? Pass a law,” Schaefer posted on social media. “[The] governor can’t create a crime & also enforce the crime. That violates separation of powers. No one person should ever have that power.”

The Tarrant County order, no matter how much I despise it, doesn't "compel business to fine citizens in their buildings $1,000 if they aren't wearing a mask." Not only is this text not in the order, it doesn't make any sense on its face. How would a business fine a customer? How would they go about collecting said fine? It doesn't make any sense. What is this site you're linking to? Here is the order: http://www.tarrantcounty.com/content/dam/main/global/Covid-19/County-Judge-B.%20Glen-Whitley-Executive-Order-2-23-21.pdf

THANK YOU! People need to bring the sauce when talking about these issues. While well meaning...facts that are anything but facts, aren't helpful to our cause. We need to be spewing FACTS and REALITY to people, not hear say. You can tell someone a million true facts and bring the sauce, then spew something easily deboonked and everything you worked for is gone and you look like a fucking idiot. Don't be a fucking idiot people, be an ohwens. Bring sauce or STFU you lazy bastards.

The article could ha e done a better job, but texas politicians have been issuing these threats since last March. My county also parroted this stance a few months ago. The threats started with Abbott.

Absolutely. There's already more than enough to get angry about. Spreading misinformation just weakens us.
