He's not stupid, he wants to trigger the leftist echo chambers. He needs to reach the other side, we already know what he stands for, the left needs to see how badly they f-ed up by putting a potato in the White House, and personally I think he wants to run it in, they won't have much to bash him for anymore, if they're paying attention.
