I agree with all of that, but there’s also nothing wrong with film or cartoons in moderation as long as it’s not being used for nefarious purposes. And for those of us that like to unwind with a funny cartoon, we have to start making our own, or looking back to the past. These networks are beyond gone at this point.
I’m guilty as sin about playing video games - especially Stellaris and Arma 3 - but I rarely view any TV. Cleaned my guns yesterday while messing with stellaris, but I’m also in my 20s...
Yeah I just stopped enjoying them in my 30s. Use to play all the time but realized I wasn't getting anything out of it. So I shifted my time to skills and fitness. I rock climb, read, do yoga, and cook now. The yoga is just to undo the damage of sitting all day for work and help with climbing.
Video games are a different monster. Like books, it requires very little overhead to make a good one, so you don't have to sell your soul to get in the industry. It also helps that a lot of good "big releases" are from Japan.
The problem with games is, like with books, they keep your brain exercised, so they don't really replace TV and movies. The normies we want to reach just want to vedge out and binge watch.
The tools are there, sure. Animation is an art form though, and a hard one at that. It’s not as easy as “download this”. That’s the catch here. People who dedicate their lives to perfecting the art of animation TEND not to be MAGA.
Not saying it isn’t possible, I used to work with an animator that was super conservative. He was an older gent and his background was stop motion stuff.
Exactly. A person who spends enough time in their adult life perfecting any art form is someone with a lot of time on their hands. It’s pretty damn hard to spend several hours a day honing an art practice when you also have to spend several hours a day working hard, either with your body or with your mind (or both). For this reason the arts tend to be dominated by people with a strong sense of entitlement.
Well, and music and voices are part of the picture. "Download this" might work for a game developer in his garage, but you won't make a movie with that alone.
Story, script, voice talent, sound and editorial, art direction, marketing...
Then on the back end:
Visual development, Animation direction, Animation, lighting, compositing, rendering, support for all of the above, production management..
There's a reason movies, especially animated movies, have credits with tens of thousands of names. It's not because film production is a never ending butterscotch waterfall of cash, it's because it takes massive amounts of resources to make a high quality movie of that kind.
Ever see the Studio Ghibli movies? Japanese animation studio that puts out wonderful movies of very wholesome stuff. Some of the best movies don't even have a villain.
Yeah, my daughters are still ... let's say single digit. I'm holding back on Princess Mononoke because it's PG-13. And they still have G movies.
Totoro was a hit. Kiki's Delivery Service was a hit. Ponyo was a hit. Howl's Moving Castle was a hit. Pretty good record so far.
We even tried a few PG movies from then and spin offs. We got Okko's inn from the library. That was actually one of the harder ones because of the amount of actual tragedy that happens. My older daughter is always afraid something will happen to Mommy and me, so seeing the girl orphaned was hard on her.
Heck, one part was hard on me. They cater to the father and his son who just lost their mom. And when they ate, they ordered an extra plate for a side of the table, on which they put the mother's picture. My daughter asked me to explain that. I started to, and began to cry myself.
I agree with you. One thing I've noticed is sorely lacking on the conservative end is that we're too damn cost effective. 🤣
We'll write books, music, or video games because they require very little overhead to make something good. Imagination can make up for lack of production money, and can often win big. But TV and movies require a hell of a lot of resources to do something even mediocre. Live action requires people to act out roles, location scouting, studio space, props, permits, etc. An animator could probably pull off a good animation alone using Flash (now Adobe Animate) or some open-source 3d software, but they'd still need voices, music, etc. This kind of stuff requires teams of people working in cooperation.
It seems conservatives usually only go this far for documentaries or "message movies" unfortunately. We need to start putting out entertainment for entertainment's sake. If people have a good place to "check out" where they can just watch a good flick without being preached at, the likes of Disney, Turner, and Netflix would have some real issues.

I agree with "in moderation", but as of 2018 the average American was consuming 11 hours of media everyday. It's probably over 12 hours now. https://www.nielsen.com/us/en/insights/article/2018/time-flies-us-adults-now-spend-nearly-half-a-day-interacting-with-media/
That's scary. I don't watch TV or play Vida games anymore and still never have enough to do everything I want or need to in a day.

Now all you have to do is bitch about Democrats on Discord to Europeans and you'll be the average Paradox Player.

Especially Animation can be made by MAGA folk. The tools that can be torrented for free are better than what Pixar had in the 90s

The number one predictor of conservatism in someone is having to work from an early age, and provide value to eat.

Stuff that Disney should have been doing.
Some of them. Others get more than a little preachy. I dunno if many people here would appreciate Princess Mononoke.
But Ponyo is probably one of the best "kids movies" I've seen. And I don't know why, but Ponyo's mother giving her to Lisa makes me cry every time.

Totoro is definitely great. Reminds me of old family movies, and definitely has small town appeal. (Japanese, sure, but yeah.)
Wonder how they would take Spirited Away. That one is pretty surreal.

But hell if I know how to start a TV studio.
Still haven't seen a cartoon funnier than looney tunes or a tv show funnier than the three stooges. Not even close.
