Honestly I think we are arguing different things here. I’ve never looked at any flu statistics because I found them to be irrelevant, as I find total deaths to be more indicative.
The total deaths for 2020 are higher than any year since 2001 so I don’t think you can just write off Covid as something that is hoax or fake. That being said, I do not think that it was worth locking down the whole UK for this as the deaths aren’t high enough for me to rationalise a lockdown, and they should have just done more to protect high risk groups.
How much higher though? That is my point. By "higher", do you mean by hundreds of thousands? Or by higher do you mean a few hundred - because although technically higher, if the death rate is within a few hundred them they are SIMILAR.
If you checked the raw data you will have seen that 2020 had much more deaths than any other year since 2001.
While that may be true, it had similar amount of deaths as a bad flu season.

The number of deaths in 2020 above the 5 year average was approximately 85,000. Bear in mind the population of the UK is smaller than the USA.
