People who say slavery was not a, if not the, reason are misinformed. It's interesting to me that the origins of people settling on the continent are various. E.g. many coming from northwestern Europe settling from Virginia on up (just for example, I'm not any expert on this), and naturally people coming through the Caribbean settling in the southern states. And maybe those folk are more likely to have origins where slavery was commonplace? Thus proliferating it in the south?
Slavery is abhorrent. Just spitballing on how it came to be in America.
Slavery was a significant reason that led to the civil war.
Slavery would have been eventually abolished, even if war was not in Lincoln's term.
