Here's my personal tale of white privilege in America. When covid struck, I had been working for a non-profit for 11 years that was connected to the travel industry. So in order to remain open, they needed to do an 80% reduction in force. We had 24 Software Developers and they decided to keep 4. There were 3 different teams, so they kept each of the team managers, which left 1 lone position.

The guy they kept had the 2nd least seniority on the team, and THE least experience. He wasn't even actually contributing code yet. But he was the ONLY black developer.

My boss shed some light on it for me. Apparently there are racial quotas when involving businesses of a certain size regarding reductions in force. If they don't meet those quotas, they are in danger of law suits. Even though retirement is a long way off, I planned on finishing my career there, yet was unable to strictly because of my race. And the business lost out, because they literally got the least experienced developer we had instead of someone that could contribute in a meaningful way during a very rough period, and there were many of us.

THAT is the real situation in the U.S. right now and we all damn well know it.
