My parents wouldn’t let me watch this show (among others) growing up.

I used to think they were crazy and being hyperbolic about all of the propaganda in TV and movies that they would point out and scoff at, but they were 100% right and while it has gotten a lot worse, it’s nothing new.

Now I’m even worse about calling out propaganda in the middle of a show, and because of it I barely watch any TV shows or movies anymore. Thanks Mom and Dad!

Lol, it's true so many shows when I was a kid screamed about recycling. The only show that was about animals and didn't preach was Zaboomafoo. Chris and Martin Kratt are conservationists, but don't lecture or point fingers. They focus on the animals and how cool they are and leave the brainwashing out of their show.

As a kid, I think I would watch the theme song because I found it catchy, and then change the channel afterward. I have zero memory of the show itself. Also, is it just me, or did the animator use Richard Dean Anderson (McGyver) as his male facial template for Captain Planet?

I have used Captain Planet as proof of long term indoctrination before as well...you are absolutely right
