What federal law? Some potatus illegitimate EO? Airlines have become extremely obnoxious. Before it was annoying that they threaten to throw you off the plane but I guess its their right as a business. Now they threaten you with criminal charges. Its fucking clown world and they literally do wtf they want cause of this corrupt government and know customers dont matter since they will get bailed out anyway with our tax payer money.

There is a federal law requiring you to obey all instructions of flight crew. If they told you to rub your stomach and pat your head at the same time, that would theoretically be covered...
It's similar to the legal authority exercised by ship captains.
That said, this is a pretty broad law, rife with potential for abuse.
Perhaps we should address that.
