I only click through to Facebook when a tweet with an underlying link is posted. It would be nice to be able to reliably get the link in the comments.

Agreed. If I look one up on a post, I try to share.

Heck yes! I know a lot of us have done so. I thought this might be helpful for those difficult friends and family who think it will be "such a big change." They look nearly identical UX wise haha

You missed an easy one there:

BigTechxit

(#BigTexit and #Texit hereby reserved for Texas succession.)

Proud to say I deleted my FB YESTERDAY.

While I'll miss keeping up with some friends from the past and family I rarely speak to, it is just not worth it to remain a product of Mark Zuckerburg. And make no mistake, that is exactly what you are when you sign up for FB.

The only other thing that made it difficult, was photos of deceased family members posted there. While I backed everything up, and of course have backup photos on USB (both in my house and in a safe deposit box at a bank), it was still somehow somewhat reassuring to know that there was some online record/memory of them. BUT, in the end in 100 years nobody is going to really remember any of us outside of a very few and even then they wont remember it will just be what others have written or said.

I hope FB fails and one day some better form of online social communication is available. One that is not rank with privacy invasions and manipulation of content.

Congrats! Enjoy that "reclaimed freedom" feel! I also backed up my photos. Sounds like you've done everything you can do to preserve those precious memories. The bonus for me was having a few meaningful interactions on my way out, got a lot of friends emails, and even a couple of lunch dates.

I'm going to try to feature a new one every day. Today is Gab. I mean the two are virtually identical in UX. After a few weeks on Gab, I already prefer the hashtag system, group engagement, and ability to change screen color with ease. Of course, I also prefer not being tracked and censored.

Don't worry. I'm doing one with Communities.Win vs Reddit. Spoiler Alert... Reddit doesn't win.

It's going to be difficult to get people to stop using fakebook due to fags who complain publicly about being oppressed by big tech, but think "I need to use facebook to post my personal information so I can keep being used and oppressed!!! also, what about my cat photos!!!"

Is Myspace a good alternative?

I can't tell if you're joking or serious. So, I'll answer lol.

"On February 11, 2016, it was announced that Myspace and its parent company had been purchased by Time Inc. for $87 million. Time Inc. was in turn purchased by the Meredith Corporation on January 31, 2018."

MySpace is not a good alternative.

Oh, I was serious, I'm not that well versed on social media and I'm trying to find something I can get on where family members can message me from time to time.

I've already deleted my Facebook account, which I rarely used anyways.
