So God raised up JEROBOAM to lead TEN tribes in a SPLIT kingdom.
They were going to have a CIVIL WAR until God's prophet intervenes and tells them all to go home.
So they split into two kingdoms who became known as
Israel - the Northern kingdom, ten tribes (and some Levites) centered at Samaria
Judah - the Southern kingdom 2 tribes (Judah and Benjamin, with Levites) centered at the city of David.
The north kingdom IMMEDIATELY TURNED TO IDOL WORSHIP.
Eventually they so angered the Lord that they were expelled from his presence and sent to exile.
The south kingdom EVENTUALLY turned to idol worship and also expelled and exiled (or killed).
The book of Isaiah covers this very clearly.
Though they were SYMBOLICALLY REFERRED TO as Judah, Jews, or Israel, THEY WERE ONE POLITICAL IDENTITY.
They were not a single race. They intermarried constantly (Solomon, lol, you might say is the true father of islam, not mohammed, sorry).
Their ONLY RELIGIOUS IDENTITY comes through Jacob (called Israel), through Isaac and Abraham - each met with Jehovah face to face when they symbolically separated from "the world" and became God's servants.
THE ONLY POLITICAL IDENTITY comes through OBEDIENCE to GOD as king, or surrogate kingship granted under David.
THIS IS EXACTLY WHY JESUS WAS BORN OF THE TRIBE OF DAVID. IT COMPLETES THE ENTIRE NARRATIVE OF WHAT IT MEANS TO BE "JEWISH".
