Looking the part, and confidence; possess those two traits and you can pretty much socially hack anything in America. As a field tech in my early career, I learned that as long as I was carrying a tool bag and/or a clipboard and looked like I knew where I was going, I would almost NEVER be stopped or questioned inside of a business/school/factory/hospital etc. Even if I actually had no business there.
There is a video by some "Yes" men on YouTube where they put this to the test. They put a workers vest on and grab a clipboard. They get into MLB games, construction sights even fucking Disney World. You can imagine the melt down by these places when they posted it online. It was glorious.
did you see the vid of the guys that picked up a ladder outside the superbowl game 2 years ago? 4 guys comin' through! we've got a ladder here! no tickets or questions, they just got to walk right in.
I spent an hour wandering around the surgery suite of the wrong hospital last year. Tool bag and ladder in hand, just walked back there and no one said a word. Wasn't until I called the IT dept for clarification that I realized I was supposed to be on the other side of town. I had monitors removed, tracing wires through the ceiling, even had some Dr help me find the disposable suit and booties so I could go in the clean rooms.

Back in the day we called this social engineering.
Con-man stands for confidence man. Walk with confidence and you can do a lot, for good or for evil.
