When I talk to people who weren't hippies, druggies, or left-wingers from that era they in hushed tones tell me "you know, Nixon wasn't actually that bad, I actually liked him". It reminds me of how it can be hard for people to admit they like Trump in mixed company. This alone makes my view of Nixon at least a net positive.
He had the right enemies (media, Democrats) and still won two elections massively. He was doing something right, even if he gets zero credit for it.
