Once it was a cheaper to use irish immigrants and others fresh off the boat, the north didnt need blacks as slaves.

The economics of slavery is something that doesn't get talked about enough, or at all really, even in academic circles. Slavery is almost always framed in a morality argument.

Yes, slavery is morally wrong from a modern view. However, back in the day they looked at it as simply "equipment".

Yeah, I also love the irony that the crowd that judges slavery for todays morals also attacks industrialization, also from a moral standpoint, from the comforts provided by industrialization.
