The early 2010s turned a corner for lefties. They lost most of their big platforms. Gay marriage got settled. Black man president. Big corps and Super PACs all got behind Democrats. The left became thirsty for endless war.

So as a result they had to abandon moderate platforms and were forced to embrace further extreme ones, because the problem with being 'liberal' is you can never be happy with what you have. You have to be a forever-miserable moaning cunt about everything and demanding something "new". Because if you weren't, that literally would make you conservative.

So now they're teetering on the edge of a cliff, holding onto sane Americans, and we've got to convince them to throw them off the cliff, or that they'll just get pulled down with them.
