Trump really seems bad at finding people to trust, because he seems to recruit from a pool of insiders. He needs to find a couple insiders who have been with him through thick and thin and then he needs to start recruiting outsiders.
I am not judging his performance, just pointing out some obvious things.
In general, imo, he filled a certain niche that wasn't hard to fill, to begin with, what he delivered wasn't hard to deliver either given that most of the things were based on the expected response by the public and the market, and all of this has been already reversed. So, my question is -- when will we win and what exactly is the prize? Thus far, we are in much deeper shit than we were a year ago and he was complacent in it.
I looked him up and after doing some research he is a great guy and would be a great representative.
Didn't Trump endorse McConnell too? Barr? How about them supreme court judges?

I really do not know about that. Make your own best judgement and research their stances and history.
