A first year, first term President never has a State of the Union address. It's just an address of a joint session of Congress. It is strange that he's not doing one of those, as they always happened in February of the first year for past presidents.

The State of the Union does not happen, however, until a full year has been completed, which would be January of 2022 for alleged-POTUS Biden.

Call him out, yes, but at least call him out correctly.

Trump waited until Feb 28th in 2017 when he gave his first SOTU address.

President Trump's first state of the Union Address was on January 30th, 2018.

On February 28th, 2017, President Trump addressed a joint session of Congress and delivered a speech. First term Presidents are unable to give a SOTU in their first year because they were not the President the year before so it is outside the scope of their knowledge to give a State of the Union address.

And again, just to re-iterate: It is a big deal that Biden is not giving an address before a joint session of Congress in his first year. It's an expected norm. He clearly had it on his schedule and now they're lying about that, too.

But if you're going to call him out for it, at least be correct and don't call it a SOTU because it's impossible for it to be a SOTU because it's not a SOTU.

No. Trump gave a speech to a joint session of congress on February 28th, 2017.

Trump's first State of the Union Address was not until January 30th, 2018..

No President gives a State of the Union Address during the first year of their first term in office.

Just look at the SOTU data from our last 4 Presidents:. Trump gave 3 during his 4 years in office, and each of the former three served two terms, but only gave 7 SOTUs during their 8 years. Why? Because the first year is only a speech to a joint session of congress. They haven't been President so it's outside of their abiity to give a speech on the state of the union. Instead they give a speech on what they intend to do. Re-watch Trump's 2017 speech for yourself.

Again, this is not to say that it's not big deal that Biden isn't doing a speech to a joint session. #IT'S A BIG DEAL that he's NOT doing it.

But call it what it is: IT IS NOT A SOTU.
