Old ACLU would step in and protect the KKK, Neo-Nazis, and the most despicable people they could find because they valued the core freedoms. Even horrible people have the right to protest and speak.
New ACLU decided threw out those principals and is really just a leftist organization now. They will only help protect freedom of speech that they deem appropriate, which isn't really freedom of speech.
