Old ACLU would step in and protect the KKK, Neo-Nazis,

They likely didn't do this because of freedom of speech. They probably didn't really
care about that.
They were probably just happy to do whatever they could to help paint white people
as KKK/Nazis for their own benefit.
I support freedom of speech, but I am suspect of their actual intentions.
