I guarantee you a lot more kids get bullied for liking anime or being white (never send your kids to ghetto schools). Gay is pretty much the official sexuality of the Educator class, so at the very least the gay kid is a LOT more likely to have the backing of the staff than the nerd kid or the kid with coke bottle glasses.

So of course the gay kid gets bullied, the vast majority of kids do. But he's still got it way better than all but maybe a token black kid in a suburban white school that everyone wants to befriend because he's the one black kid.
