In high school 2 of my good friends were children of immigrants, one Chinese and other Japanese. Their parents pushed them hard to succeed in school, lots of days they couldn't come hang out or game because parents had them doing extra homework and the like

We had two Chinese sisters in my high school who were absolute geniuses at the violin. Concert-level, really, really good. And... they absolutely, utterly, frickin' passionately HATED their instrument! They HATED how it had so consumed their lives.

I didn't hear what ever happened with them after graduation. But it was clear to me they paid a terrible price for their considerable skill.

They have the skills but lack the soul.
