He praised the most idiotic action of the Trump presidency. The bombing of an empty airfield in Syria based on CIA lies about Assad gassing kids. And the audience full of neocons clapped and cheered.
Because in reality it was a good tactic. It was 100% Machiavellian in approach and tactic.
It accomplished as someone said a few things.
It stripped the neocon warhawks of their gong to put extra pressure on the Trump admin to intervene
It stopped the UN being lead not by the US but by the EU and Turkey to go in (because securing the rights for a new pipeline was more important to them than stability).
It put China and Iran on notice that the US will use overwhelming and decisive power to deal a fatal blow. No more slow boil wars, if we fought it was for victory and swift decisive strike to minimize our casualties while maximizing theirs.
Had there been no Russia Delusion investigation the Syrian Strike would never have been necessary since we've would have worked a deal out with Russia. We did however work out that deal (that Biden swiftly renegged) but it had to be done in silence while blustering on the outside. The whole strike was a multi-million dollar kabuki show. It accomplished what it was supposed to do. It effectively kept us out of war by using a placebo effect on the dumb neocon warhawks.
I think people have gotten too used to low intensity conflicts so any use of force is seen as a continuation. Mainly using drones and talk to overcome our opposition. The goal for warhawk democrats (ie RINO republicans) is to keep that gravy train going. Hellfire Missles cost 70k a pop, attack UAVs cost 123 million. That's not counting parts to maintain the UAVs.
Using Million dollar Tomahawks probably made these RINOs cream themselves, because more money to their masters. The U.S spends way too much money on non-essential defense items in our Defense budget. mainly all the experimental tech that never gets adopted at all. Moving forward, we should focus on changing that balance, spend more on stuff that works and prioritize R&D on things we can field in 3-5 years.
