This was a piece of satire - it was mocking some actual local govt rep that had come up with some proposal or something along these lines, but not nearly as out there as this satire piece exaggerated it.
The problem with this satire is that this is the way the UK is now. You're not allowed to resist home invaders and you must cooperate with them by law. Since they did that, guess what crime went dramatically up. Home invasions. We can't really relate to that because we don't have many home invasions here because there's so many gun owners.
Well damn. I just typed a whole ranting comment about how absolutely ludicrous it is, and now I feel like an idiot. What kind of clown world are we living in where I genuinely cannot tell whether something like this is satire or not? I think this is the kind of rhetoric they will actually push on us in a few years at this rate. There are already a number of leftists who unironically believe this. It's just that those ones don't hold office. But they vote for people who do.
