My thoughts have always been if someone is willing to break into my house how am I supposed to know what they are capable of? There are plenty if stories of intruders assuring the family: "just give me your money/valuables then I'll leave"...then they rape the mom and daughter and shoot everyone. Point is, If you're crazy enough to break into someone's home God only knows what else you're capable of.
