He then asked if I was willing to shoot someone over my xbox.

I told him, "The xbox was besides the point. We are talking about a person intruding into my house at night with my family present. Hell yes, I'd shoot him. It's the principle of the thing. I'd shoot a hole in my xbox without blinking to do it."

It's the best option.

If we're talking best option... short-barrel P90.

  1. Dimensionally it's about as compact as a rifle can be without being a handgun. In close quarters of a house where someone could try to grab the gun, this is advantageous.

  2. Short size also means easy one-handed operation, so you can open doors, hold a door shut, push someone away, or grab someone or something while easily remaining on-target.

  3. 50 rounds on tap. Mmm.

  4. Weighs next to nothing, is quieter than an AR, with much less of a flash than a similarly compact AR. Not only is this better to keep your senses intact, but anyone in the family can use it. Someone who isn't comfortable with guns may hesitate to pull the trigger on something like a shotgun.

  5. Fully ambidextrous, anyone can use it.

  6. Red-box brand ammo will smoke through a Level IIIA soft vest but doesn't classify as armor piercing.

  7. You're shooting someone with a P90 how fucking awesome is that?

  8. If you have an older generation with the 'safety sear', you can turn it into a machine gun with a zip tie which is why they quit putting it in there lol.

I actually almost added a line at the end of my comment mentioning the P90, haha.

SG1 demonstrates it the best: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=NjlCVW_ouL8

I've wanted one for a long time. SBRing it would suck though because you wouldn't see it again for a year.

I also would go for a 5.56 IDF Tavor. Those are bad ass. But I really want a P90 too.

Also, you don't need ammo that'll penetrate lvl IV+ armor when you've got 50 rounds on tap. Most plate armor is only rated for 5ish impacts before it starts coming apart. You dump 15 rounds into the chest of someone wearing level IV ceramic plates and half of those rounds are going to be tearing apart their chest cavity. Even with 5 impacts most people will have so many bruised and broken ribs they won't be able to breath and will no longer be an effective fighting unit.

Stargate even demonstrated this too. The G'ould had heavy armor plate but they'd just pump 20 or 30 rounds of 5.7x28mm into them and they'd be toast.
