He ain't wrong. What he is describing is what we now call crony-capitalism. Capitalism is the best system ever devised...crony-capitalism is just another way to say "corruption".
The best system? Nah. It's idealistic, just like communism. Crony-capitalism is a testament to the failure of capitalism, and the solution cannot be more capitalism.
Markets need to be regulated to prevent various forms of parasitism and to keep the system stable. The system itself is dead, but we humans are not. Therein lies the problem with both capitalism and communism.
I disagree. Economic freedom is important, and what we need to ensure it is allowing the people to maintain, keep and bear arms. Culture must be pro-individual, not pro-entity. Examples of this can be seen in the mining wars of West Virginia, people taking up arms against coal companies and their hired guns. Currently there is no difference between gov and corporations, and tyranny can be had from both. I guess what I'm trying to say is that we as a nation need to overthrow the massive entities every few decades to stay healthy. The issue is those entities trick people into believing they're needed.
Not too related, this is the one problem with the constitution. It was not explicit enough in stating when we should rise up. The fathers stated tyranny, but they did not state examples of it. (Yes people are stupid enough to not recognize it). Had they stated the creation of a federal reserve as a violation, private entities violating rights, etc, maybe more people would get it. I suppose this is why the fathers had voting rights for landowners exclusively.
Dude, you should have seen how despised and lit up on here a few months back when I tried to tell everyone that soldiers oaths meant nothing and that it's essentially a mercenary army. There's a lot of people that still believe in all that bullshit from post 9/11 where the propaganda was out 24/7 about protecting our freedom.
I know nothing at all about Smedley Butler, but that sounds like the statement of a man who regrets defending American liberty... Maybe even a communist
It's complicated. Dude certainly didn't regret defending American liberty, as any time there was fighting to be done he got back in, but he was pretty jaded from fighting to protect private interests in the Caribbean and South America.
He was an anti-fascist republican that supported FDR. He was from the political class, career military, private sector between wars, ran for office and lectured after he retired.
I lost faith in our military when they allowed Biden to take office.
That's when I realized our country is in greater danger than I had ever imagined.
When your legislators tell you to fuck right off you just run to the polls next election if they let you vote.
Capitalism is another word for self determination.

Very interesting.
Some good stuff at fas.org
It's not capitalism that is corporatism or fascism really
Cowards and Oath Breakers.

Bona fide war hero.
Interesting guy either way.
Something you should know about Smedly Butler, he is one of only two Marines ever to receive 2 Medals of Honor.
Nah, sounds like a man who understood “liberty” was being used to strong arm nations and govts worldwide.
Freely grow those bananas or we freely kill you.
And you'd be absolutely wrong. Go read his book, really more or a pamphlet, "War is a Racket".
General Smedley rightly identified the federal governments thirst for enriching themselves and their cronies under the guise of "spreading democracy".
I fought in OIF and you know what...it had ZERO to do with defending American liberty. Just like all the other endless wars politicians get us into.
You have an obligation to educate yourself on our history. Go read up.
He was well before his time.
Ah. I see that the anti-military psyop is fully deployed today.
I'm confused ,what liberty did I defend exactly other than defense investors??
