I am ok with paying a toll to use the highway or a gasoline tax, something that is proportional to the amount of public services I use.
Paying five grand per year or more just for sitting in your house is stupid. What are some old lady sits at our house it doesn’t go anywhere? Should she have to pay so much in taxes?
The government has way too much control over everyone’s lives right now.
This has been built up gradually over the years (eg social security)
The only way to break out of this parasitic system is to teach people that there was a time when Americans were more independent and did not need government for most things in their lives
Ok, keep complaining and do nothing then. It’s going to take a few generations of work to undo the collectivist propaganda (“FDR saved the economy!”)
Or you can at least start with your own kids. Homeschool and give them a proper education. Teach them how to be self-reliant and not wait for some higher authority in government to make their life better.
What will that do? It will teach rhe group that was most likely to be self sufficient anyway that they should be self sufficient. Meanwhile the groups that leech off us continue to lap up the message that they should leech. Then we vote against each other. Guess how that goes
I don't know that it is sufficient. america was different because it was new and people saw was freedom was. and these people were the ones that didn't die from the trip or the wars, or the kids of these people.
thats long gone. your parents had less freedom than when it was founded. and you have even less than your parents.
people are cowards on average, sadly.
imo you'd want to teach people how to have courage, but history says we lose in the end. we'd need far away land to go to, pretty much another planet, to do this again, with even more guardrails this time.
People generally revolt when things can't really get any worse. Boiling frogs and all that stuff, I guess. Proactively going out and killing your way to a better world doesn't work. It sure didn't for the idealists that went to communism 100 years ago in Russia..
All you and I can do is be responsible, teach our kids to be responsible, use common sense and think for themselves. If you do well in life, business etc. people will gradually come your way and ask how you pulled it off.
If you own a business, EVERY single fixture in your store is assessed property tax. I owned a bookstore and the shelves the books sat on were taxed. The display that had gee gaws on it was taxed. If I bought $1000 worth of books and none of them sold I was still taxed on the increase in my inventory at the end of the year. Its insane how much and how frequently we are taxed.
I'm a huge fan of the Business Permit and Occupational License I pay for based on the prior years gross revenue. So you could lose money net - have no fears, the county government is here to charge for the privilege. (Not to mention - it's $0 fee for up to $100,000, immediately jumps to a flat rate on the entire amount at $100,001 gross revenue, so earning that extra dollar costs you $190.)
The Founding Fathers revolted over so much less than what we put up with. Government "by the people, for the people" is just a giant corrupt, parasitic, and overreaching bunch of bureaucrats and grifters at this point.
How would you fund public schools? I like the idea of funding being tied to property taxes because it keeps the riffraff out of both the schools and the neighborhoods who cant afford either.
I also like the idea of charter/private schools where students have to apply and can be accepted/rejected based on their performance.
Im not sure what an alternative would look like. I dont like the idea of a nation wide funding program, all schools would perform worse under such a program.
Well for one, getting rid of foreign aide and pet projects would be a fantastic start.
1.9 trillion. We don't have 1.9 trillion.
Democrats are paying with blank checks and hoping they won't bounce.
If we stopped all foreign spending and stopped all unnecessary funding of dumb projects, we would actually be able to pay back our debt.
Once that shit is gone, we can re-look at other programs we may need. Government shouldnt be responsible for your ass. It should only protect your property rights and uphold the law when you need the courts, as well as provide a military to protect us from enemies.
No, homeschooling and private schooling should be the norms. If we stop taxing people so much on their houses to pay for lousy public schools, those parents could use the freedom of funds to educate their kids a different way. Let the free market decide!
What especially funny is that you can pay for something such as the Robinson curriculum.
It is a bunch of public domain and select copyrighted books for $200, plus a few hundred extra to obtain a complete set of Saxon math books thank you get your kid all the way to his second or third year of college, depending on how many AP exams he takes to skip bad courses.
Think about how many thousands of dollars you have to pay in property taxes wherever you live in the US to send your kid to some mediocre public school? It’s absurd
Actually, the Robinson curriculum is designed to be a self-taught one. This week, the parents do not have to spend a lot of extra time holding their kids hands, helping them through the learning process.
He even warns parents that their kids may become better educated than you after using it, LOL
That particular curriculum strongly discourages parents from allowing their children to use computers or TVs before the age of 16, but if you’re not against computer learning, there are plenty of online homeschooling curriculum you can use such as Ron Paul curriculum.
I havent looked into it. Self teaching seems to be based on the presumption that the child is willing to teach themselves. I dont know if the program talks about that or not, but most kids would rather eat candy and play video games all day than eat vegetables and teach themselves. Also what about pacing? How does self teaching ensure the child is progressing successfully?
He even warns parents that their kids may become better educated than you after using it, LOL
children should become better educated than their parents. They should also be wealthier. That is the foundation of a progressing society.
I have poured over the contents of his website and YouTube videos and was very impressed with what he had to say. That being said, it is not so well organized so I cannot find the exact article I wanted to share to answer your question so I’ll paraphrase.
The public schooling system is designed to teach children to become obedient cogs in the machine and teach them that they are in capable of doing anything without outside intervention.
Now as far as discipline goes, Art Robinson was well disciplined with his kids. He did not have to yell them he did not have to hit them or anything like that. All he had to do was set up a few desks in his office space and he would do his own work quietly in front of them and expect the same from them when they were working on their math problems are reading books.
If you set a good Example for kids, they are going to emulate it. When you send them to public school, they are going to pick up bad habits and bad behavior. That’s all there really is to it.
Kids are very impressionable, after all
You may not believe what I am saying, but it is true. Look at people like Thomas Jefferson. He was mostly self-taught and look at where it got him!
Most of the counties around here in Dallas / Fort Worth were at least smart enough to not raise the values of anyone’s house for 2020. Our property value (and taxes) have been going up the legal limit every year for probably 5+ years now. I guess they didn’t want to deal with the shit storm that would have arisen from asking to pay more when the schools were shutdown and city services were suspended for so much last year (oh and people not having jobs because of those same county governments).
I'm specifically referring to "muh Freeman" and thought it was obvious. Sure there are other morons that drive without tags but it's probably the best known trait of the Freeman guys. "I'm not driving, I'm traveling, herpaderp!"
I used to think like them when i was younger when everything is black and white, it made complete sense. Then you grow up and realize everything is grey. Morally thet might be in the right, but its a very very very dumb hill to die on and i cringe at those videos now.
It cannot be denied: the Department of Motor Vehicles does ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to make the roads safer. Most people suck at driving but they have their licenses, plates, and tags anyway.
It could be argued the DMV makes the roads MORE dangerous.
I’m looking forward to destroying the alphabet agencies, dissolving the IRS, and these state run theft rings like the DMV and insurance companies.... oh it’s coming. This train is FULL BLAST AND NO BREAKs.
Want to hunt -need license
Want to fish -need license
Want to pick mushrooms -need license
Want to wildcraft -need license
Want to collect rainwater -need license
With the exceptions of the mushrooms, you participating in that activity has a non-trivial impact on your neighbors (usually). Of course, there are places that have these restrictions just for restrictions sake, but if we let everyone just hunt whenever they wanted we'd decimate the game populations and then no one would be able to hunt. Same thing with rainwater; it actually does affect lake, river, and aquifer levels downstream from your property, which is why it's regulated in certain areas with low rainfall.
Perhaps, but there seems to be some fundamental issue with having to pay bureaucrats for the right to fish on private property. Or that the government owns the rain falling out of the sky. The government can own the rain falling on to public land...but my land?
Yeah like. Can understand registering, but why pay? Going to have to pay so many dumb fees on top of already being taxed? Pay for library card like netflix subscription?
My new county executive just outside of Washington DC has changed the building permit laws. They've become so lax people are now allowed to build shed size buildings for occupancy in your yard. What is now happening is Mexicans buying a house and building a bunch of illegal immigrant apartment sheds in affluent neighborhoods. I'm for building permit laws.
A huge issue with the political discourse in our country is how quickly people call others hypocrites for not following their assigned political label's doctrine to the T. Politics used to have something called "common sense" that people would invoke when writing laws. Now everything is labeled as either pro-government neoliberalism/neoconservatism, pro-degeneracy progressive, or leave-me-the-fuck-alone libertarianism. Not everything falls into neat labels in the real world.
I don't want my neighbor to tear down his house and build a ten story house 6 inches from the lot lines and certainly not without the structure being inspected and approved.
Incorrect. Government is formed out of being reasonable and rational. The issue is when some people think unreasonably and irrationally in terms of abusing their power to control others.
I was at one yesterday and the waitress I talked to said she ended up quitting her old job where she was making like 16 bucks an hour to work full time at the club because she can walk out of there everyday with at least a hundred or more in tips. And that's on a bad night. When they do poker night, she usually leaves with 200 or so from tips alone.
And waitresses don't even have to do actual stripper work!
Years ago me and a few buddies found this strip club that did $5 cover + $5 doubles on sunday nights so we just started hanging out there for a while. The waitress that worked that shift would just come and shoot the shit with us if it was slow, and we tipped her good because she was always on point with drinks even if it was busy.
Ehh have to disagree on this to a degree. People often forget that policies like building codes and permits started off solving a very real problem of unsafe construction by unscrupulous scum. Of course, they now mostly exist to maintain their own bureaucracy, but having some codes and an efficient enforcement mechanism needs to exist. At least they're done at the county state level, which is constitutionally justified to a degree.
The problem with regulations is that many of them are good. At first.
Then like 20 years later you realize how fucking stupid chapter X paragraph Y is and it fucked up the building dynamic in the whole city leading to low supply and astronomical prices.
So why can’t the regulations be per county? Generalizing regulations to large areas is fatally flawed. It’s also much easier to manage regulations when the regulated area is small
All you're saying is the gubbermint lets you have a farm truck or a rallycross beater you can flatbed to the local field that you don't have to pay the same taxes on every year.
And sometimes you still have to on the farm truck.
Non licensed and insured drivers wreck families everyday. DUI drivers wreck families everyday. I think the fees in some states are way too expensive , but I support the DMV and road regulations.
Licensed and insured drivers cause accidents too. The DMV doesn't care about who should or shouldn't drive. They care about who can pay the fees. If improving road safety is really your concern then your faith in the DMV is greatly misplaced.
Too bad they just drive anyway, and if there's no booze involved they don't get sent to jail for any significant amount of time until like the 4th time they get caught or they kill someone. If they're illegal they just skip.
DMV exists to tax you repeatedly on a purchase you made potentially decades ago.
True, I know people who've gotten fucked in accidents caused by illegals. In CA most people buy a rider on their own insurance to cover them for that case.
That's correct. And the DMV is doing nothing to rectify the situation. They have no reason to, because they have fooled people like you into believing they are necessary for road safety when they don't have a positive impact on road safety at all.
If these tests worked, there wouldn't be so damn many terrible drivers on the road. But there ARE tons and tons of shitty drivers on the road, so we know they aren't effective.
If the DMV began diligently evaluating everyone's ability to drive, there would be a lot less people getting cleared to drive, which means a lot less people paying the fees to get licenses plates and tags. I'll bet insurance companies wouldn't like it either, since you wouldn't have much luck selling insurance to people who can't legally drive.
No I'm not here because I want to ask for permission and think I'm obliged to. No I don't think they provide a legitimate service, because if they did, a car would only have to be registered and plated when it transferred.
I'm here because men with guns will harass me if I don't pay your fucking recurring sales tax.
I don't have any conceptual problem with vehicle reg, if it were actually registration rather than a really shitty annoying way of implementing a tax and giving a welfare job to Shaneequa.
I might be the odd man out but I'm all for the Motor Vehicle Administration. The idea that I can prove a vehicle is mine through it's registration goes a long way if my car gets stolen. Not only that but having proof of insurance to keep tags on the registered vehicle sounds good to me too.
Do you have a better proposal for how to prove a vehicle belongs to you without a registration system? Do you think people shouldn't be required to have auto insurance? This isn't Uganda where people can just steal cars or drive without a license. Small government is a necessary evil.
I thought we were discussing vehicle registration. I'm for sensible speed limits. I've worked in a lot of countries with next to no motor vehicle laws. No double fucking way do I want that in America.
I think the point is you can determine a stolen thing without government intervention if that is the point you stand on; that registration is good because if stolen it might be possible to recover your vehicle if the thieves are complete garbage at stealing stuff and happen to not chop your vehicle in time.
Blockchain tech solves ownership issues without need for a central trusted bookkeeper. Idk where you live but CA DMV is out of control with fees and wait times.
Problem is bereaucracy is a cancer that can only grow and grow. No deep stater will help destroy their bread and butter by making their department more efficient
Yeah I was talking to my brother (he is smart but not really redpilled, too focused on his family and business to care about politics) and he kind of strawmanned my argument, I guess he thought I wanted to burn down the system because I was telling him that the current administration is illegitimate. Maybe in my passion it comes off that way, but all we really need is to go back to enforcing the constitutional limitations on government power and arrest criminals when they break the law regardless of their VIP status or relatives.
Yes it is. We literally evolved to form governments as having a hierarchy to resolve disputes between individuals, and encourage work for the collective, is more effective than individuals working for their own best interests. Evolution optimizes for success.
They can provide the loss mitigation advantages by mandating the vehicle be registered every time it changes hands. Buy a car? You go to the DMV to transfer the title anyway, just update the ownership registration right there. Pay $10-15 for 10 minutes of Shaneequa's valuable time and a half second of her baby daddy's time stamping the plate at the state pen and you're good to go. Car is registered until it changes hands again.
They can require you to have insurance on the vehicle VIN, and a cop can easily check that.
The only reason to do it yearly is to extract recurring sales tax on the same purchase.
You just described exactly how it is done in Maryland except we renew the year sticker every two years and that the vehicle must pass a roadworthy inspection the first time you register it.
It's more like $100 every year here on an old beater. It scales with value so it can easily be several hundred a year on a new car. $15 is much more reasonable, although given how much we already pay in every fucking kind of tax I really hate profit generating "service fees" in general, even if they're only milking me for $15.
At least I live in an area outside of the major metro so I don't need emissions thanks to a rural exemption.
Emissions as far as I know is still handled by a state sanctioned monopoly with like 3 testing stations in the whole metro area. I believe it was around $50 the last time I had to do it around '07. It's an extra layer of sucks ass if you live in the metro area or burbs.
Oh yeah when you buy a new car, you get to pay sales tax and registration on it!
I think there is a good compromise to strike here. Make registration voluntary, but make it so that if your car gets stolen and it's unregistered, you're shit out of luck as you can't prove you owned it/didn't sell it.
Replace "car" with "guns" and you're making a leftist argument.
Don't get it twisted; the Left love to use the analogy of the DMV and gun control all the damn time. Its private property either way, so don't compromise and implement passive-aggressive punishments toward people who don't buy into it.
"Oh well, you didn't register your car. Guess you're shit out of luck! Should've registered your car with the state next time."
That's fucked up logic. Similar to "its just a mask" or "its just your name on a list."
I always thought it was strange NH has license plates that say "Live Free or Die" when literally driving without one will result in your fine and potential arrest if you fail to pay and ultimately your death if you resist that arrest, holding true to the statement.
Using a motor vehicle on your own property requires no licensing. Using your property on public property requires a license to ensure you have at least a basic understanding of how to safely operate it. As far as annual fees and all that shit, yeah fuck all that. It seems even small agencies that started with a legitimate purpose have ballooned to the point of just reinforcing the continuity of oppression. The system has learned that if it gets big enough and complicated enough it can get away with untold wrongs because it's too large to be effectively punished.
You're actually there to get permission to use government-maintained roads. You can use your own car on your own property, without registration, plates, or a license, for free. You don't even need to pay car tax to do it.
government maintained roads that you paid to maintain (your grandparents paid to install, your parents paid to maintain, and which isn't actually maintained a whole lot unless you live on a road travelled frequently by someone 'important'..
Forget about any/all technologies that would actually create long lasting roadways like the dude who was killed after inventing rubber/asphalt roads that flex in the winter and don't require salt.
You're actually there to fund your own government-maintained enslavement, enforced by you and others just like you
Bro idk licenses have actually really helped us catch black murderers. Those dumbasses get caught bc of cars and license plates more than they ever do bc of fingerprint and DNA
This is kind of stupid. You pay the toll to use the king's road. The DMV is there to collect taxes in order to allow you to use government built roads.
I think it's really meant to be preventing people who are idiots or otherwise unqualified from smashing into other property / people. Government owns the roads, ergo, the government tries to apply harm reduction. Same would happen with privately owned roads that anyone could use. The Nurburgring is an interesting and extreme example of what that would look like.
Ooohhh you posted on patriots.win back in 2021? Well, you’re an idiot and your privilege of driving has been revoked. You might smash into someone or something.
Dont even get me started. Even the supreme court ruled private citizens can traverse the roadway without needing registration/etc. Plates and regs are for commercial transportation. I hate that they fooled everyone into paying out the ass despite never being intended to.
Ehem. You only need a license to use the vehicle on public roads and it is supposed to protect people from people incapable of driving from endangering the public.
Nothing wrong with this one bit. Now some of the fees and requirements are excessive.
that's insurance and getting a drivers licence, I think the plates and stickers and mandatory taxes and appraisals on cars over 25 and emissions tests etc are all cash grabs.
Idk man, motor vehicles can be very dangerous if used by someone who doesn't know how to operate the machine, or what the rules for operating it are. I don't particularly like an annual tax for registration, but j understand why motor vehicles are regulated the way they are.
It's not like a gun, guns are a right not a privilege.
You have to prove you know how to use your own property properly. And for that they force you to pay hundreds of dollars, because how else would the government make a profit.
This 10000%... I'm going through the personal hell of having to build a home and bow to these tax suckling fucks at every turn. I've come to the realization that you don't own shit if you have to pay someone for the right to use it.
And now....
Not without a mask.
Reasonable accommodations = private morning 8:20am appointment in the winter so they can see you alone. If your care taker needs to go in with you there will need their information in order to track you.
This is what you get when you don't require people to have drivers licenses. 10 years old? No problem. Freeman who's never driven before? Have at it. Legally blind? Good luck fren!
Another one I never understood is personal property tax.
It is all a scam
Just like that tea tax.
It is all theft.
Theft by fraud
You don’t like paying rent to the government in perpetuity??
I am ok with paying a toll to use the highway or a gasoline tax, something that is proportional to the amount of public services I use.
Paying five grand per year or more just for sitting in your house is stupid. What are some old lady sits at our house it doesn’t go anywhere? Should she have to pay so much in taxes?
thats because you rent everything from the government.

You are not supposed to own anything, pleb. The government above all.
You never own your property.
What else has property tax besides homes?
All property, actually. Just most people don’t report it all.
If you own a business, EVERY single fixture in your store is assessed property tax. I owned a bookstore and the shelves the books sat on were taxed. The display that had gee gaws on it was taxed. Cars.
Get rid of the property taxes while you're at it too. Once I own that house it belongs to me, and the government has no right to tell me otherwise.
b-b-but your property taxes fund schools! Dont you want quality schools for your children and your neighborhood children?
Also, we are shutting down schools because teachers unions are on strike. But we are still paying them.
I do want quality schools. That why I don't want to pay property taxes to fund public schools.
i was being hyperbolic.
How would you fund public schools? I like the idea of funding being tied to property taxes because it keeps the riffraff out of both the schools and the neighborhoods who cant afford either.

Exactly. Net taxpayers are the people who should be voting because they fund the government.
License plates are a violation of the 4th amendment. It's not the governments fucking business who you are when you drive down the road.
LOL, I've seen videos of guys like you arguing with the cops about why you don't need tags or a driver's license. I've never once seen your team win.
I'm specifically referring to "muh Freeman" and thought it was obvious. Sure there are other morons that drive without tags but it's probably the best known trait of the Freeman guys. "I'm not driving, I'm traveling, herpaderp!"
You’re a cop.
This fucking place. Cracks me up sometimes.
Just devolving back into another reddit, voat, whatever.
Might makes right.
The only true rule of earth.
Laws make right. Might enforces laws. I don't want 10 year old kids or drunks driving any more than a Freeman.
Holy shit guy that has to be the stupidest thing I've read all morning
Legal and moral have never and will never be synonyms.

Add building permits to the list.
They also stop things like strip clubs and bars being built next to schools. It's a hard balance to strike.
I do. That’s what the Founding Fathers intended.
Incorrect. Government is formed out of being reasonable and rational. The issue is when some people think unreasonably and irrationally in terms of abusing their power to control others.
Kids will learn more useful things in the strip club than at at fucking public school.
Sad truth.

Yeah I used to live in San Fran.
So why can’t the regulations be per county? Generalizing regulations to large areas is fatally flawed. It’s also much easier to manage regulations when the regulated area is small
And they create housing shortages by limiting development.
But why are houses so expensive /s
Yeah that's real fuckin useful, that.
All you're saying is the gubbermint lets you have a farm truck or a rallycross beater you can flatbed to the local field that you don't have to pay the same taxes on every year.
And sometimes you still have to on the farm truck.
Washington would've shot so many people over the idea of having a dmv.
Coming soon, for guns
Pretty soon the guns will be coming for them.
Weimar got to "prostitute your children for food" before the reaction came.
You will soon.
Not soon enough.
Ah, sovcit trash.
DMV is a scam. If it was just about mapping the car to a person you'd have to register it ONCE on purchase and pay a nominal fee.
Yearly tags are a recurring sales tax on an old purchase.
I love the sovereign citizen vids of cops smashing their windows in.
"BUT BLACKS LAW DICTIONARY STATES THAT TRAVELING IS LEGAL!" SMASH
"If it pleases the crown......"
The DMV makes me rage to no end, another massive fucking scam and money grab.
It doesn't matter if they care or not. Insured drivers cause accidents but the damages get paid... by insurance.
Yeah ok. Written and driving test are just for show too.
It’s pretty much this.
Yeah I don't like cages. Having to sit in a cage because you refused to fill their coffers is synonymous with a shake down.
Government is not a necessary evil.
Do you have a better proposal for how to prove a vehicle belongs to you without a registration system? Do you think people shouldn't be required to have auto insurance? This isn't Uganda where people can just steal cars or drive without a license. Small government is a necessary evil.
Isn't it strange that you can't go faster than 85 in the United States but our cars can hit 150 or more?
Point is why?
It's so you can go faster than the speed limit.
So you can get busted.
So you have to pay the Government.
Government is just a system that lets rich people of the hook while make poor people pay for the hook.
The Government isn't good at the jobs given to them.
People can get paid off.
Government allows you to get screwed.
I thought we were discussing vehicle registration. I'm for sensible speed limits. I've worked in a lot of countries with next to no motor vehicle laws. No double fucking way do I want that in America.
You can tell where a cow was stolen from without the Government's help.
Because they’re tagged with a brand.
I'm discussing motor vehicles and a way to make sure vehicles are insured.
Sounds great for future use.
Problem is bereaucracy is a cancer that can only grow and grow. No deep stater will help destroy their bread and butter by making their department more efficient
I absolutely positively 100% agree with you. I'm for changing the system. I'm NOT for abolishing the system at the moment.
Government steals my money.
Evolution is a bad thing.
Are we going anprim now?
Already an anarcho-agorist, wouldn't be much of a stretch.
And you're happy to keep paying the same tax over and over and over for no benefit whatsoever.
I think I pay $15 for the sticker renewal
It's more like $100 every year here on an old beater. It scales with value so it can easily be several hundred a year on a new car. $15 is much more reasonable, although given how much we already pay in every fucking kind of tax I really hate profit generating "service fees" in general, even if they're only milking me for $15.
Damn THAT sucks! How can they rationalize that? Sounds like taxation without representation to me. Ridiculous.
I can see the underground chop shop Mexicans licking their lips already.
Any proposal to make people insure their vehicles? Having mandatory insurance to be able to get tags is a pretty good system.
100%.....
The Government should be run like the DMV......
Truth is, and always has been, is not TRULY our own property. Good luck ever full right owning your own piece of land.
It's insane in NY. If you move to NY, your license and registration will be suspended at some point because of their bureaucracy. I guarantee it.
I always thought it was strange NH has license plates that say "Live Free or Die" when literally driving without one will result in your fine and potential arrest if you fail to pay and ultimately your death if you resist that arrest, holding true to the statement.
That sir, is Irony
Taxation is theft
We should all become squatters
The government needs a serious enema.
Was just thinking about not bothering to register my vehicles anymore. Already stopped buying fishing licenses.
Love how libertarian this place is becoming.
Very sassy, keep it up, boys!
End the Fed and homeschool your kids!
Just to legalize the property you already own.
The road is his personal property?
TOP KEK
This is what you get when you don't require people to have drivers licenses. 10 years old? No problem. Freeman who's never driven before? Have at it. Legally blind? Good luck fren!
