b-b-but your property taxes fund schools! Dont you want quality schools for your children and your neighborhood children?

Also, we are shutting down schools because teachers unions are on strike. But we are still paying them.

I do want quality schools. That why I don't want to pay property taxes to fund public schools.

i was being hyperbolic.

How would you fund public schools? I like the idea of funding being tied to property taxes because it keeps the riffraff out of both the schools and the neighborhoods who cant afford either.

I also like the idea of charter/private schools where students have to apply and can be accepted/rejected based on their performance.

Im not sure what an alternative would look like. I dont like the idea of a nation wide funding program, all schools would perform worse under such a program.

that is a way to generate the revenue, but how would it be distributed?

No, homeschooling and private schooling should be the norms. If we stop taxing people so much on their houses to pay for lousy public schools, those parents could use the freedom of funds to educate their kids a different way. Let the free market decide!

What especially funny is that you can pay for something such as the Robinson curriculum.

It is a bunch of public domain and select copyrighted books for $200, plus a few hundred extra to obtain a complete set of Saxon math books thank you get your kid all the way to his second or third year of college, depending on how many AP exams he takes to skip bad courses.

Think about how many thousands of dollars you have to pay in property taxes wherever you live in the US to send your kid to some mediocre public school? It’s absurd

it is absurd you have no choice but to pay for mediocre school. But you have to have a stay at home mother willing and capable of teaching this.

Actually, the Robinson curriculum is designed to be a self-taught one. This week, the parents do not have to spend a lot of extra time holding their kids hands, helping them through the learning process.

He even warns parents that their kids may become better educated than you after using it, LOL

That particular curriculum strongly discourages parents from allowing their children to use computers or TVs before the age of 16, but if you’re not against computer learning, there are plenty of online homeschooling curriculum you can use such as Ron Paul curriculum.

I havent looked into it. Self teaching seems to be based on the presumption that the child is willing to teach themselves. I dont know if the program talks about that or not, but most kids would rather eat candy and play video games all day than eat vegetables and teach themselves. Also what about pacing? How does self teaching ensure the child is progressing successfully?

He even warns parents that their kids may become better educated than you after using it, LOL

children should become better educated than their parents. They should also be wealthier. That is the foundation of a progressing society.

Most of the counties around here in Dallas / Fort Worth were at least smart enough to not raise the values of anyone’s house for 2020. Our property value (and taxes) have been going up the legal limit every year for probably 5+ years now. I guess they didn’t want to deal with the shit storm that would have arisen from asking to pay more when the schools were shutdown and city services were suspended for so much last year (oh and people not having jobs because of those same county governments).
