No, he really didn't unfortunately. Pence could have done what was being asked of him because other Vice Presidents have done similar things in the past and thought nothing of it.
Or he could have at least had the decency to tell the American people before hand that he didn't think he had the power to change things. Instead, he used wording in speeches leading up until the very day of the certification that made people think he would do something. It wasn't until the 6th, and a couple minutes before the meeting in the senate that he said anything specific, and that was in a letter released through a tweet; and that statement misrepresented what we, and President Trump were hoping he would do.
Maybe Mike Pence isn't a "traitor"; but he's at least weak as well as a coward.
