I'd argue it was put on by corrupt capitalists and industrialists to get more women out of the home and into the work force.
While I can appreciate the faults of corrupt capitalists, the first feminists in this country documented their movement as having communist intentions to subvert the family structure
I feel like the commies would have trouble funding a movement like that but I could be wrong.
