Believe it or not, people pushing for unnecessary amputations has been a thing for a while. People wanting to be blind, deaf etc. some variant of body dysmorphia.
Here's a video of a crazy bitch that feels like she should be blind - even though she can see perfectly well. She lives her life as a blind woman, pretending she can't see until taking the ultimate step of pouring acid into her eyes to blind herself for real.
Of course her local blind community welcomes her with open arms and thinks she's brave.
I remember years ago when I was helping a relative cheat in an English class I came across some reading about "why do people assume that deaf and disabled people want to hear, etc. maybe they want to be like that".
The deaf woke crowd is a another can of worms. They actually don't see not being able to hear as a disability and prefer to stay deaf, want their children to be deaf, and see the cochlear implant that allows deaf people to gain one of their senses back as "genocide" since it would completely kill the "deaf community" by allowing them to hear.
