Can someone explain to me exactly what it was that Pence was supposed to be able to do and why he refused to do it? I know he had the final vote in a 50/50 split in the Senate, but I have never been clear on what we were asking of him.

His refusal to exercise his Constitutional duties, namely rejecting blatantly fraudulent sets of "certified" sets of election results. Had he done so, numerous possibilities could have transpired.

So, why would that require so much courage? What would have been the worst-case consequences, assuming it "didn't work"?

The state legislatures from the swing states had sent two sets of electors, one certified and one not certified, and then sent letters indicating they wanted to audit their elections. Pence was supposed to announce he was sending the electors back to the legislatures in the swing states, now in session, giving them 10 days to resolve any issues. Part of the problem with the current timeline is that it is nearly impossible to effectively challenge fraud since the legislatures go out of session a few weeks after the election and do not meet again till early January. It might have been more possible prior to 1933 when the inauguration was moved from March 4 to January 20.

He gave the "Ok" to an election without having the courts look into any fraud or "irregularities."

Trump was saying Pence was on the same page in not certifying the election results, but Pence chose otherwise.

Fuck Mike Pence. Traitor.

I don't think this should be modded down. It's a reasonable question. Here's some info about what he was asked to do: https://americanmind.org/memo/setting-the-record-straight-on-the-potus-ask/
