I think that notion is based on the idea that secession = bloody civil war. This is not how it would have to go down. The idea that the US has to remain as a 50 state union to keep china from invading is simply false. Same reason why Brexit occured and it wasnt like russia went off and invaded england. Hero cult aside, it's hard for a mass movement to be effective without an identifiable leader and leadership structure. DJT has been that leader, and as far as I can tell he still is. There hasn't been a leadership structure behind him, just the federal government which isn't about the MAGA movement. Decoupling from Trump might be a good idea long term, but in the immediate future, until some kind of structure is in place, I don't see who or what picks up the mantle.
