As a latino with Mexican heritage, my family can trace our first ancestor to arriving in Mexico in 1540, that is total bullshit.
My ancestors arrived from Spain in Mexico in the 1500s, married native women and fathered children. Those children were distinctly different from the white Spaniards who fathered them, they were brown skinned and had features of the native people of the land. My ancestors continued to breed with other children born of those Spaniards and migrated into what is known as the San Louis Valley in Colorado. We are NOTHING like our european ancestors, we have our own culture, our own spanish language that is VERY different from the spanish that is spoken in Europe, so much that when I traveled to Spain 30 years ago as a young man it was very difficult to communicate with them because even though we both spoke 'spanish' our dialects were very different, almost a completely different language.
My culture is also nothing like European culture, it is distinctly Central American and southern American Mexicano culture.
To claim that there is no latino culture is BULLSHIT. I am a proud Latino American and my culture is nothing like European culture, but very much old Mexico.
Look, I hate illegals as much as the next guy, but my Mexican heritage is its own culture and customs, to claim that my heritage is some how European culture, when I have been to both my native Mexico and Spain and seen first hand that is BULLSHIT pushed by white people in Boston that don't know SHIT about southern US or Mexico.
She was not white, she was a latina.
You know, one of those brown people Trump wants to lock up.

"Latin" is a made up category to drive a wedge between southern Europeans and American culture.

Blah blah blah, made up term.
Perhaps, my family prefers chicano.
Me personally, I call myself American, I was born of American parents in America. My ancestors were from Mexico.
But we have a very distinct culture to claim that we do not is a lie.
Our weddings feature Mariachi for instance. Spain does not have Mariachi, we did not import that culture from anywhere, it was home grown in Mexico.
