It's what happens when the government subsidizes something. When kids can take out government backed loans for tens of thousands of dollars, Universities are incentivized to pump up the cost... Students are stuck with a massive debt which even bankruptcy can't erase and the colleges have billions in endowments.
Same idea behind the massive cost of healthcare. When your insurance will cover your medical costs, the doctors and hospitals will charge exorbitant amounts because, hey, the insurance companies will pay! Then the cost gets passed on to the consumer via health insurance costs.

Harvard, Yale, and Princeton, each with tens of billions in endowments aren't universities.
They are hedge funds, with a university attached to them.....
How can colleges be non-profit and not pay taxes, and then donate to political campaigns? These institutions seem to get a free pass all around.
